WWG girls take 2nd at Luverne Tourney The Chargers beat Canby 66- 51 but lost to Luverne in the championship game 50-44. In the Canby game, Katie Hansen led in scoring with 20 points followed by Katie Swanson 14, Jamie Munson 13, Jenny Heinrich 12, Andrea Knakmuhs 2, Jodi Cooley 2, Emily DePrez 2, and Andrea Hannan 1. Hansen grabbed 14 rebounds and Swanson 7. Heinrich dished out 7 assists. WWG lost to Luverne as a result of an ice cold 4th quarter. They missed 9 freethrows and made only 1 field goal. Luverne capitalized to come from behind to win. Munson was high scorer with 14 followed by Heinrich 11, Hansen 9, Swanson 5, Knakmuhs 3, and Hannan 2. Hansen grabbed 10 rebounds and Munson had 7. Heinrich and Hansen each had 5 assists. WWG now has an 8-1 record. They play at Edgerton vs SWC on Thursday. Next week's schedule has HBC at Westbrook on Tuesday and WWG at Fulda on Friday. They defeated Ellsworth (4-2), 61-50, and MLBO (6-1), 66-59 in double overtime. WWG 61 Ellsworth 50. WWG made the long trip to Ellsworth to play the Panthers who were led by Jenna Groen, a 1,000 point scorer. The Chargers trailed early but used defensive pressure to take the lead. The lead was extended to 13 points on several occasions but WWG was careless with the ball and allowed Ellsworth to cut into that lead often. In the end, it was key freethrow shooting that sealed the victory. WWG was 8-11 at the line in the fourth quarter. Individual leaders were Katie .. Hansen with 28 points, 10" rebounds, and 4 assists. Becky Schulz, 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. Katie Swanson 6 points and 10 rebounds, and Jenny Heinrich 7 points and 9 assists. Andrea Knakmuhs scored 5 points and had 5 steals. Coach T. commented, "We were still recovering from some of the girls being sick. It was a game where we didn't get much rhythm going. Hansen and Heinrich hit key freethrows in the fourth quarter. I was happy with our rebounding. Knakmuhs and Heinrich did a great job on defense to force many turnovers. They are capable of doing that every game!" WWG 66 MLBO 59. Both teams came in undefeated and they didn't disappoint the crowd as they played a double overtime thriller. MLBO led the entire half until Jenny Heinrich nailed a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give WWG the haliime lead. The second WWG led by minutes to go. the line and pointers to fall into OT.
