Art exhibit opened at the Cottonwood County Historical Society The Cottonwood County Historical Society invites you check out the exhibit God's Creation: Lester's Observation by Mt. Lake photographer Lester Rupp in the Remick Gallery. This exhibit features over 40 photographs of birds, but- terflies, animals and other outdoor landscapes. This exhibit runs through March 26. Lester purchased his first camera through a mail order company when he was in junior high. His grandpar- ents lived on a farm north of Mt. Lake where he and his siblings spent much time exploring the birds and animals in the slough. So began his life-long love of nature. Over the years he has taken thousands of photo- graphs and slides of birds, flowers, butterflies and out- door wild life. He experi- mented early with his cam- era placing it in a box with a string attached that when disrupted would take a pho- tograph. He also joined the Southwest Minnesota Nature Club over 50 years ago which is now the Cottonwood County Bird Club. He has in his col- lection, photographs of 300 species of North American birds. He has made good use of these photographs by providing programs over the years for many local orga- nizations, schools and 4-H clubs. The Cottonwood County Historical Society, located at 812 Fourth Avenue in Windom, is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. For more infor- mation contact the museum at 831-1134. The exhibit is sponsored by the Robert & Helen Remick Charitable Foundation Trust. WHO IS CARING FOR THE CHILDREN?? (Rev 1:8) Man has often tried to be God. The movie 'Bruce Almighty', which came out a couple of years ago, is about Bruce, a man down on his luck, who prays to God for help. God suppos- edly gives Bruce His unlim- ited powers to see if he can solve his own problems. He finds that using them for selfish reasons, and failing to answer the millions of prayers that come his way, causes far more problems than he can handle: He finally relinquishes his God- given powers, realizing that Man is not meant to be God. Only Jesus Christ is Almighty. This title sug- gests three things about the Lord Jesus. First, He is the Controller of all things. And He is before all things, and by him all things consist (Col 1:17). All Creation is under His control. This includes things about which you may not have thought: animal migrations (the march of the penguins; geese heading south); photosyn- thesis (humans and animals need oxygen and give off CO"; plants need CO = and give off oxygen); the move- ments of the heavenly bodies (the orbits of the planets; the locations of the constel- lations; the timing of the comets and meteors). These things are not accidental. God controls all that occurs not only on earth but in our solar system, our galaxy, and beyond. Furthermore, the term consist in the verse above literally means to cohere, or hold together. Without the controlling power of Jesus Christ, the end;ire universe would fly apart. He holds it all together on an atomic level. What a Creator! Christ is the Provider for all. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no varia- tion, nor shadow of turning (James 1:17). The sparrows eat; the children of Israel were fed with manna and quail in the wilderness; the believer who trusts in Him will never hunger (Ps 37:25). He provides the very breath that we breathe, and yet many people use their breath to take His name in vain. He is a loving Creator who provides for His Creation. The Lord Jesus Christ is the God of all Power. The same word, Almighty, is translated in Rev 19:6 as omnipotent--all powerful. Is anything too hard for the LORD (Gen 18:14)? With God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). If He can divide the Red Sea so that the nation of Israel could cross over on dry land, and if He can rise from the dead on the third day, never again to die, then He can do anything! Jesus Christ is Almighty---Controller of all things, Provider for all cre- ation, and Powerful to do the impossible. Do you know this mighty God? He died in your place, and He stands at your heart's door knocking. If you will open the door, He will come in (Rev 3:20). www.ibcwestbrook.org CLUB NOTES TOPS WESTBROOK -- TOPS Club No. 1336 meets at Grace Lutheran Church, Westbrook, on Monday.
