] SENTINEL TRIBUNE 00orts Wednesday, January 28, 2004 Youth Wrestling at Team Tournament Plum Creek Tournament LAMBERTON -- Eleven teams from the state participated in the invitational tournament held annually. RRCWWG placed seventh with 76 points. Placing for the Falcons were Kirk Nelson 1st at 189, Mike Hubert 2nd at 275, and Clint Lingle 3rd at 112. Clint Lingle worked on his opponent in t he Plum Creek tournament last Saturday morning. Wrestling team osts Worthington By Head Coach Chad Irlbeck This was the team's first home match this season and we were looking for our first win. The team's young boys Gavin Mattison at 103 and Charlie Hubert at 112 got the excitement flowing when they both pinned their oppo- nents, giving us a score of 12- 0. Worthington didn't sit around very long and answered with two pins of their own at 119 and 125. and also winning at 130 giv- ing them the lead 12-15. But the Falcons struck back with Donavon Walz 135 maj. dec. David Haberman 17-6, and Cory Schroeder pinning Cody Schmidt to give our team the lead back 22-15. Worthington then hammered our team at 145, 152, 160 and 171, giving them a score of 22-37. Our boys still had three weight classes left that were still the deciding victor of the match Our wrestlers started to come back with Kirk Nelson, with a record of 15-3, pinning Nate Steffl at 189 giving us a score of 28- 37. But we lost the 215 weight pound class with wrestler Brent Christianson. Brent wrestled very tough only losing by a score of 2-6. Not bad considering that Brent is a 9th grader that just started a couple of weeks ago because he knew we needed a 215 pounder and that he wasn't going to see that slide away from the team anymore. Brent is exactly what a wrestling team wants. Now the score was 28-40 going into the heavyweight match. Mike Hubert pinned Alan Rowley giving us the final score los- ing 34-40. Not bad consider- ing we are a team of 1 sev- enth grader, 3 eighth graders, 3 ninth graders, 2 tenth graders, 2 eleventh graders and 3 seniors. 103 - Gavin Mattison pinned Brandon Veske in :18 see. 112 Charlie Hubert pinned Daniel Thonglyuong in 3:17 119 Nathan Wajer pinned Forrest ASp in 1:03 125 - Scott Echternach pinned Taylor Mattison in 2:36 130 - Thia Hua dec. over Nick Schroeder 10-5 135 - Donav0n Walz maj. dec. By Head Coach Chad Irlbeck It was Parents' Night at Lamberton Thursday evening and for a little extra fun we had some of our little grade schoolers put on a wrestling exhibition. These kids loved it, our future looks very bright, they sure did give it their all! MCW brought over short numbers and had a lot of for- feits on varsity. But the wrestlers, that they did bring over we pounded on. One very good match-up was at 189 where Kirk Nelson wres- tled Dusty Faber. Dusty is a returning state place finish- er last year. Kirk was han- dling this match-up leading 6-2 going into the third peri- od. But Kirk just didn't have enough left to hold on to the lead finally losing 7-8. This will put Kirk's record this year at 15 wins and 4 losses. Kirk has the second best record this year behind Mike Hubert, who is leading with 17 wins and 3 losses.
