Last November, Interstate Power announced it would provide 50% matching funds, up to $10,000 annually, on customer contributions to the program and the pledge covered all of 1990. With the high level of customer contributions in 1990, Interstate's first annual contribution was for the maximum $10,000. Interstate Power Company District Manager Del Koopman has presented two checks to each of the community action agencies which distribute Project CARE funds locally. One check was for December 1990 contributions from Interstates' customers and the second check was Interstate's contribution for the year. Interstate's contribution will continue to be distributed at the end of each year. Project CARE has been in existence since January 1989. Through the program, Interstate customers can contribute money to help low income residents of their communities pay for home heating expenses and home weatherization materials. Existing community assistance agencies distribute the funds to qualified recipients. Neither the agencies nor Interstate Power subtracts any fees or administrative expenses. Pledge cards for Project CARE are distributed with customer bills from time to time, or customers may contact their local Interstate office. One-time contributions may be made or monthly pledges can be arranged.
