John is battling the teach- ing of those who say that truth cannot be known. Without hesitation, he tells us that there are things that every believer can know. Today we will look at these seven truths, all found in 1 John. A true believer will obey God and live righteously, and he will not practice sin. And hereby we do know that we know Him, if we keep His command- ments (2:3); we know that whoever is born of God does not (practice) sin (5:18). Of course a believer will sin, but it will not be the habit of his life: His love for the Lord will help him to live for Him. When Christ comes again for His own, they will be like Him. We know that when He shall appear, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is (3:2). The suf- ferings, pains, and limita- tions of this body will be forever gone when we see Christ. Christ came to take away our sifts. And___.y_ know that He was mani- fested to take away our sins... (3:5). The Cross of Calvary is not just the story of a martyr. It is not merely about a good man who died for a cause. The Cross is where God the Father made God the Son to be sin for us. The love of God is poured out on behalf of all who will turn from sin and fully trust in Jesus' finished work. TrUe believers wll love one another. We know that we have passed from death unto life because we love the brethren (3:14). Those who truly know and love the Lord Jesus will in turn love their fellow believers. They will be known by their love for each other. The Holy Spirit has been given to the believer. And hereby we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit which he has given us (3:24; 4:13). We can- not see the Spirit, just as we cannot see the wind. But the work of the Spirit is evident in the heart of every believer--He con- victs, guides, comforts and gives assurance. We can know that we have eternal life. These things I have written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God, that ye may know that ye have eternal life (5:13). If you depend upon yourself, your religious observances or your good deeds, you will never be sure that you have done enough. If you depend upon Christ alone by faith, you can know. What blessed assurance! God will hear and answer the prayers of His people. And if we know that He hears us, what- ever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him (5:15). God is not an ATM, but He loves His own, and has promised that all their needs will be met, through Christ Jesus. We can know the true God and eternal life. And we know this is the true God and eternal life (5:20). Many voices clamor for our attention, but only Jesus Christ deserves worship. Do you know the things that John promises you can know? If not, turn t tlze ,Word.,. turn: to .the Savior, and you can have the same assurance. ibcwbmn@centurytel.net CLASSIFIED ADS CALL 274-6136 oR 1-800-410-1859 Care mld Educa#on [or Every Child - JIren DeBoer, SFVCCRR Direaor Southvtlern llfumesota OpporluMly Council lI 3rd Ae, PO Box 757 Woriron, MN $61$7 507-376.4195 Ext 231 Fax'. $07-372-4372 "llelpig People.
