SENTINEL TRIBUNE Area Focus Wednesday, February3, 2010 Page 10 Lady Charger B-squad takes second at Elkton Tourney By Coach Adam Kletscher The Chargers headed to Elkton, SD on Saturday to play in the Lady Elks JV basketball tournament. The Chargers started off the tournament at 9:30 against Elkton/Lake Benton. The first game proved to be a battle from the get go. The Chargers got off to a slow start, but took the lead 17-12 just before the half. In the second half, the game was back and forth. The Chargers found them- selves trailing in the final minute. The Chargers stopped the Elks and hur- ried the ball down the floor, with just seconds left of the clock Anne Woelber hit a three to tie the game 37 all. The three pointer forced the game into overtime. In overtime the only points came from Karley DePrez when she sank 2 free throws with just seconds left on the clock giving the Chargers a 39-37 win. Anne Woelber 12 points, Maddie Frank 8 points, Paige Erickson 8 points, Karley DePrez 4 points, Dayna Comnick 4 points, Taylor Elzenga 2 points, Kelsi Wahl 1 point. WWG 38 RTR 25 The Chargers then took on RTR. The Chargers played a great game on both sides of the ball. The Chargers used their tough pressure defense to cause the Knights to turn- over the ball numerous times. The Chargers won 38-25. Taylor Elzenga 15 points, Anne Woelber 7 points, Maddie Frank 5 points, Katie Dusek 4 points, Paige Erickson 3 points, Karley DePrez 2 points, Kelsi Wahl 2 points WWG 22 Deuel 46 In the Championship game the Chargers took on Deuel (Clear Lake). After a two hour break the Chargers took the floor looking for a Championship. The girls found themselves up against a very physi- cal team. The Chargers had a difficult time get- ting things going and lost the game 46-22. The Chargers took second place in the eight team tournament. Maddie Frank 7 points, Anne Woelber 5 points, Kelsi Wahl 4 points, Dayna Comnick 3 points, Halley Osland 2 points, Paige Erickson 1 point. WWG 42 Ellsworth 26 The Chargers played host earlier in the week to the Ellsworth Panthers. The Chargers played very aggressive defense and moved the ball well offensively. The girls won 42-26. Paige Erickson 27 points, 6 rebounds, 5 steals. Maddie Frank 4 points, 6 steals. Kelsi Wahl 4 points, 7 rebounds. Katie Dusek 2 points, Halley Osland 2 points, Anne Woelber 2 points, Taylor Elzenga 1 point. Lady Charger00, go 1-1 By Coach Sheryl Woelber The Ellsworth Lady Panthers came to Westbrook on Tuesday January 26 and left dis- appointed. WWG was able to come away with a big win (66-65) on a last second shot by Kylie Erickson. Erickson fin- ished the night with 22 points and her teammate Chanel Madson came up with the huge assist on that Shot. Madson also finished the night with 22 points. The Chargers were down by 2 points at half- time arid were able to come out in the second half and take an l 1-point lead at one time. Ellsworth con- tinued to chip away at that lead and eventually tied it at 58. The lead went back and forth for the last two minutes. The Chargers were up 64-62 with less than 25 seconds on the clock. Ellsworth came down and scored a bucket and a foul to tie the game at 64-64. The Chargers took a time- out before the free throw attempt to set up a last second shot. Ellsworth&apos;s free throw was good, leav- ing the Chargers down by 1 point. WWG executed the last second shot per- fectly, as Erickson hit 'nothing but net' from the free throw line to give the Chargers the win 66-65. The Chargers then had to face the num- ber one team in the Red Rock Conference on Friday night. Murray County Central came to Westbrook and proved that they are number one for a reason. The half time score was 47-13 in favor of the Rebels and the final score was 64-33. Madson finished the night with 14 points and Anne Woelber added 11 points. Taylor Elzenga and Alexis Quade both had 7 rebounds for the Chargers. The Chargers are now 8-9 overall and 6-6 in the conference. They travel to Round Lake on Thursday, February 4 to take on RLB WWG 51 MCC 37 The Chargers also took on MCC during the week. The Chargers played an excellent game on both sides of the ball in the win. The Chargers are now 14-4 overall. Paige Erickson 20 points, 7 rebounds, 5 steals, 3 assists. Maddie Frank 10 points, 2 assists. Molly Jarmer 6 points, 3 steals, 3 assists. Karley DePrez 5 points, 4 rebounds. Halley Osland 4 points, Taylor Elzenga 3 points, Dayna Comnick 2 points, Anne Woelber 1 point.
