ST. PAUL RIVERcENTRE" Sports Charger B squad report By Dan Peterson This was a busy week starting Monday with a make-up game with SVRLB. This was a fun game for the crowd and the players tied at the half, 21-21 and SVRLB up 33-31 after three quarters. The Chargers turned it on for a 43-38 vic- tory! Prestin Parker and Jon Kells led the way with 10 points each, followed by ,Mex Johnson 8, Brennan Enstad 6, Zach Merrick 5, and Brian Theisen 4. Brennan Enstad and Zach Merrick grabbed 7 boards each, followed by Kells and Alex Johnson with 6 and Brian Theisen 5. Brennan Enstad also con- tributed 2 assists and 3 steals while Zach Merrick added 2 assists and a steal. The team controlled the ball well, committing only 12 turnovers and grabbed 34 rebounds. Way to go! The boys again took to the court at home with Lake Benton Tuesday night. Again, a very close game with the Chargers down 25- 28 after 3 quarters. The rally wouldn't come this night, and they lost a close 33-40 game. Prestin Parker came out strong scoring 11 points, followed by Zach Merrick with 8, Brennan Enstad and Jon Kells 4, While Brian Theisen and Jared Schmidt each added 2. Brennan Enstad tallied 8 rebounds, with Parker and Kells adding 5. Kells and Enstad each dished out 2 assists. Zach Merrick hus- tled all over the court, grab- bing 4 steals while Enstad plucked 3. The boys played a good game, but cold shooting was their nemesis. Again the team committed only 15 turnovers and grabbed 32 rebounds while adding 12 steals. Friday night the Chargers' rival RRC came to town. After a bad loss the first time, the team was determined to make a better showing and that they did, having the lead the entire game until only 12 seconds left, losing a heartbreaker when Jon Kells' shot with 2 seconds left, missed the mark, giving the Chargers a 30-31 loss. In the scoring column, Alex Johnson had 8, with Zach Merrick 7, Brennan Enstad 6, Jon Kells 5, and Prestin Parker 4. Merrick, Kells and Parker all grabbed 5 rebounds a piece. Jon Kells and Brennan Enstad dished out 3 assists each. Kells also added 3 steals. The team committed 17 turnovers, but only 24 boards. It was an agonizing defeat, but was a great game to watch! Charger C- squad The Charger C-squad saw limited action this week with only one game, that on Friday against RRC. The boys handled the ball well, committing only 15 turnovers but couldn't seem to get the ball to fall through the hoop, losing 60-28. Jon Kells added 8 points, Zach Merrick 6, Layne Kockelman 4, Jordan winter 3, Michael Jans and Josh Knakmuhs 2, while Jared Schmidt added a free-throw. Jared Schmidt led in rebounding with 5. Jon Kells added 3 steals. Everyone saw a lot of action and Jordan Heinrich added his enthusiasm and hustle, while Paul Rupp and Marcus Nelson did battle inside. David Schulz played a good all-around game, although not able to get in the scoring column. The C-squad has one remaining game this season. Charger girls C-squad fall to SSC The Charger girls C- squaders took to the court last Thrusday at home, put- ting up a solid struggle, but falling to SSC 18-13 in an abbreviated, one-quarter game. They also all qualified for Nationals in June in Oklahoma.
