e ,ances TEN YEARS AGO April 9, 1981 A good crowd was on hand Monday evening to bid on donated items consisting of hand made items to various food items. The Apron Sale netted $1,600. The annual event was cried by auctioneer, David Rupp and clerked by the Westbrook State Bank, both of which donated their services. The firemen were called to a house fire at the Robert Wahl home 6 miles south of town and 2 miles east Friday afternoon. The blaze apparently started in an upstairs bedroom. The dwelling suffered heavy smoke and water damage. The Westbroek Legion Auxiliary announced their selection of Karen Vaupel for Girls State representative and Cathie Christensen as alternate. TWENTY YEARS AGO April 8, 1971 Steve Severson, hardworking forward on the Wildcat basketball team this year, received word this week that he had been named to assorted junk from the streets and gutters in Westbrook. Russ Mortenson and Dennis Jutting drove for the youngsters and then served them hot dogs and pop at the Light Plant when the job was done. THIRTY YEARS AGO April 6, 1961 Westbrook Dairy this week announced purchase of the former Swede's Egg Market building from Max Ohlson of the Westbrook Hatchery. Westbrook's Dairy's owner, Keith Villa, stated that increased sales of "Brook Maid" ice cream has made the move to larger quarters necessary. Mrs. Leslie Jackels of rural Westbrook became the first winner, and $25.00 richer, Friday night all because she shopped in Westbrook. Her name was the first drawn in the Westbrook merchants sponsored Friday Nite Cash Drawing which is being held weekly here.
