SENTINEL TRIBUNE i Area Focus Wednesday, April 24, 2013 Page 11 The last time I wrote this column, I commented on how nice the winter was with no rescheduling for winter sports. How things have changed for spring sports. I hope that this week has brought some warm and dry weather. With about three weeks left in the regular season-most of the WWG athletic teams have only had one outside event!!! Squeezing a six-week schedule into a three-week period of time will be challenging!!! Check the school website or redrockconference.org site for updates. These are the home events scheduled at Westbrook the next few weeks: Baseball (4:30) Varsity Games are played at Lamberton Tuesday, April 30 vs MCC (JV @ WB) Thursday, May 2 @ Edgerton (JV @ WB) Friday, May 3 vs Jackson (JV @ WB) Thursday, May 9 vs MLA (Doubleheader) (JV @ WB) (Junior High at WB City Park) Tuesday, May 21 vs RTR in WB (Varsity) Golf April 25 RRC & MLA Westbrook, 4:00 April 30 TMB & Fulda Westbrook, 4:30 May 2 HBC & MCCWestbrook 4:30 May 3 Junior High WWG Tourney Westbrook, 4:00 May 7Girls Invite Toumey Westbrook, 1:00 May 9 SWC Westbrook, 4:15 Football Update RCW and YME are discussing pairing their football programs. They will give us a decision next week. If they pair, the eight teams on their schedule for this fall will need to find another game. We may have to play a zero-week game which means football would start a week earlier and the first game would be a week earlier. I am looking at other alternatives, also. Upcoming Events The WWG Athletic Awards banquet sponsored by the Westbrook Kiwanis will be held on Friday, May 10 at the Westbrook Community Center. Summer Rec sign up forms are due back to the office this Friday. Westbrook Summer Rec is back in the T-Ball/Mites/Peewee league again this year. Practice at both sites will start June 3 with the first games on June 6. The Khyle Radke Summer Agility/Strength program will start on June 3. It will be held MWF from 10:00- 11:30 a.m. Sign up at the high school by May. On a personal note---I attended my Dad's 96th birth- day party last week. He was a dairy farmer most of his life.. Two things he always stressed to his 7 sons and one daughter were: Hard work and common sense usually produce good results. Have a good week!!! Branch pick-up Last week the Westbrook city crews were busy picking up branch- es from the recent ice storm. The city will contin- ue picking up branches through the end of the week. However, with the most recent snow, that will likely be extended as needed.
