Bockman, Milford, IA Find us on the Web at www.lyon- OBITUARIES Bernice Mae Thompson Funeral services were held at Bethany Lutheran Church in Storden, MN on Tuesday, May 4, 2004 for Bernice Mae Thompson, with Pastor Alan Buresh officiat- ing and Gladys Herding, organist. Casketbearers were Adam Kahler, Larry Mischke, Steve Learned, Jerry Thompson, Peder Thorsness, Bob Grams. Interment was at the Westbrook Cemetery, Westbrook, MN. Bernice M. Thompson was born on a cold day, January 4, 1908, in Des Moines River Township, Murray County, MN to the late Carl Edward and Katherina L. (Arfsten) Learned. She grew up in the Westbrook area with her sib- lings: Albert, Richard, and Hazel. She attended country school and graduated from Westbrook High School in 1926. Bernice attended St. Olaf Lutheran Church south of Walnut Grove where she was confirmed. One of the Bible verses that amazed Bernice was John 3:16. On January 13/1926, Bernice was united in marriage to Emil Thorsness in Slayton, MN. She enjoyed being a homemaker and raising their three children: Donna, John, and Leo. After his death on April 1, 1959, she was fifty-years old, Bernice moved to Minneapolis where she worked at a number of different jobs. She was employed for a number of years as a housekeeper at LSS; a home for unwed mothers. She also worked as a housemother at a Children's School for the Deaf in Eastern MN, as a house- mother at a college in Mankato and as cook at a Sorority at the U of M. On July 19, 1975, Bernice was united in marriage in Jeffers, MN to Gerald Thompson from Storden. Gerald passed away in the spring of 1998. After his death, Bernice moved to be closer to her daughter in Hood River, OR. She remained in Oregon until moving back to the Westbrook Good Samaritan Center in Westbrook on July 12, 2001. She remained there until she went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at the wonderful age of 96 years. Through the years, Bernice was known for her enjoy- ment of talking on the telephone, her delicious cinnamon rolls that were made from scratch, and her enjoyment of traveling. Some of the places Bernice was able to travel to included Europe, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, DC, Las Vegas, Alaska, and Oregon. Bernice was a longtime and dedicated member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Storden where she was president of the Ladies Aid in 1956 and Sunday School teacher from 1955- 1959. Bernice's grateful family includes, one daughter, Donna Martinson of Hood River, OR; one son, Leo Thorsness (Gaylee) of Saddlebrook, AR; daughter-in-law, Marlene (Mark) Thorsness of Durango, CO; nine grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren. Bernice is preceded in death by her parents; spouses, Emil Thorsness and Gerald Thompson; one son, John Thorsness; one grandson, Ryley Sherman: two brothers, Albert, and Richard Learned; and one sister. Great great grandmother is Erma Kuehl, Westbrook. Viola A. Vick Viola A. Vick was born October 10 1912 to Margaret (Hinrichs) Klute on a farm near Fulda, She grew up on the family farm and education in the Fulda Public School system, with the class of 1930. Vi chose the teaching received and completed her training at Siaytor ued her education with off-campus coorses State College. Following graduation, she schools in the Murray and Nobles County areas Her students were her pride and joy. On June 11, 1934, she and Clarence Vick were the Fulda Presbyterian parsonage in Fulda. riage, they lived in Fulda until 1959. Then Westbrook where Vi was employed at the Hospital as a bookkeeper for 14 years. Favorite pastimes included gardening, flowe= ing, sewing, beading, reading, visiting with having family and friends over for coffee. Most enjoyed helping others, which she considered most rewarding gifts. Her family, nieces and an important part of her life. There was a ship with Brian and Jenni, as she was like a them. Vi was baptized and confirmed in the the Fulda Presbyterian Church where she was Sunday School Superintendent. When Westbrook, she became an active member Presbyterian Church, serving as Church Sunday School Superintendent for many years In November of 1996, Vi moved to the Samaritan Center where she resided until the death on April 26, 2004. She was 91 years old. Her grateful family includes her special nephews, Dennis (Alma)Klute, Westbrook, (Doug) Zellmer, Lakeville, MN; JoAnn Covington, VA; Maria (Darrel) Ford, (Syd) Halverson, Fulda, MN; Doug (Marlene) MN; Gerald Leinen, Worthington, MN; Larry Lakefield, MN; Brian (Leanne) Klute, Eagle Jenni (Jason) Ourada, Sioux Falls, SD; Roberts, Inver Grove Heights, MN; and John Jacksonville, FL; sister-in-law, Betty Leinen, She is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence, an infant son, Roger, one brother, one sister, Louise. Colleen Mae Hoffman Colleen Mae (Dietz) Hoffman was born 1930 to Arnold and Pearl (Penner) Dietz at Sanborn, Redwood County, MN. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She Public Schools and graduated from Sanborn 1949. Following graduation, Colleen Business College. For a short while, Colleen waS as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell. On August 19, 195L she married Ronald Trinity Lutheran Church in Willow Lake couple moved around frequently in the Ron being in the U.S. Army. In 1955 they manent home north of Walnut Grove, MN. their handicapped son, Gregg, Colleen stayed care for him and her family. Colleen was a current member of Zion and a past member of Faith Lutheran Church she had served as secretary and on various roups. She was also a member of the Tracy ervices Hospital Auxiliary.
