Your local long-term care provider since 1961149 First Ave, Westbrook, MN 56183 507-274-6155 Maynard's, Inc Westbrook, MN 507-274-5555 By Pastor Rob Adams The Stars in the Heavens I Jesus have sent my angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, the bright and morning star. (Rev 22:16) Let us look at how stars are presented in the precious Word of God. They are used in Scripture in several ways, and demonstrate the power and wonder of our Great God. They are first mentioned in the account of Creation: And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night; He made the stars also (Gen 1:16). This speaks of the power of God. He made the sun and the moon on the fourth day, and almost as an afterthought, He created and scattered myriads of stars across the galaxies. They share with the sun and moon in providing light and guidance for mankind on earth. Job tells us that the stars sang at Creation along with the angelic host. Where are the foundations fastened? Or who laid the cornerstone, when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? (Job 38:6, 7) Scientists have dis- covered that stars emit sounds. Instruments have been set up to record these and other sounds from outer space. Someone has described their sounds: "Stars produce 'ghostly whistling, humming, drumming, or rumbling sounds, though their frequen- cies, or speeds of vibration, must be artificially boosted in order for our ears to hear them." We have just discov- ered this in the past few years, and yet God told us about this 4000 years ago. Have you seen or heard the commercials for the 'International Star Registry?' You can pay to have a star named after a loved one. Yet, God has already named every star, and he knows how many stars there are. He tells the number of the stars; He calls them all by their names. Great is our Lord, and of great power; His understand- ing is infinite. (Ps 147:4, 5) Stars are used to describe the greatness of Abraham's seed. And He brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if you are able to number them: and He said unto him, So shall your seed be. (Gen 15:5) Just as the stars in the sky were uncount- able to man, so the seed of Abraham is vast in number. The enduring nation of Israel is a testimony to the truth of Scripture. Stars have been and will be used in judgment. They fought from heaven; the stars in their courses fought against Sisera. (Judges 5:20) The heavens above moved to help Israel defeat the Canaanite army--an unusual rain came and the chariot wheels of the enemy were stuck in the mud. BehoM the Day of the LORD comes, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and He will destroy the sinners thereof out of it. For the stars of heaven and the constellations shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in its going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine (Isaiah 13:9, 10). This is referring to the dark days of the Tribulation period that is coming on this world one day. These are just some of the references to stars in Scripture. We will plan to continue with this topic next week, and look at Jesus as the bright and morning sty'.
