GLANCES IN THE PAST Kletscher- FIFTEEN YEARS AGO May 19, 1999 Sunday afternoon Trinity Lutheran Church dedicated their new piano and held a concert featuring the new instrument. Playing in the concert were Jocelyn and Gretchen Wester, Tasha Nelson, Karen Trelstad, Elizabeth Johnson, Marian Johnson, Peggy Klasse, and Janet Mischke. Meadowland Farmers Coop is planning several building projects in the area. At Walnut Grove, a new 64 ft. by 152 ft. high concrete silo will be constructed which will hold 440,000 bushels. The antiquated fertilizer and chemical facilities at Storden and Westbrook will be closed and a new state-of-the-art facility along Hwy. 30 between the two communi- ties will be constructed. , THIRTY YEARS AGO May 17, 1984 Alison Cohrs had a date with Terry Lester last Sunday and did what any young girl would do -- she took her sister Sheryl along. Lester, who plays Jack Abbott on "The Young and the Restless" was in Worthington's No--Malt Sunday after- noon for a weekend promo- tion. Cohrs won the dinner date when she was chosen as the winner of a contest spon- sored by the mall. The Westbrook FFA Chapter had five members receive the State Farmer Degree this year. This is the most ever in a single year for Westhrook. FORTY FIVE YEARS AGO May 21, 1969 Archie Anderson, a main- stay of horseshoe pitching in Westbrook, has notified the Sentinel that Westbrook's entry in the south League would have to pull out because of lack of pitchers. Two teaching vacancies have been filled in the past week. Miss Sanna Bowden, of Huron, SD will be teach- ing business education sub- jects next year. Mrs. Janet Denker of Durant, IA, will be teaching a 2nd grade posi- tion. Five honor students have been named at Westbrook High School. Carolyn Pierson has been named Valedictorian, Shirley Refsal Salutatorian, Juanita Kopperud, Erling Anderson, and Murl Rupp were named honor students, maintaining an average of 90 or more through their four years of high school.
