SENTINEL TRIBUNE Wednesday, June 2, 2010 Page 8 There are 54 seniors graduating from Westbrook Walnut Grove High School. Twenty seniors are enrolled in a four-year college, thirty are enrolled in a two-year college, and four are going into the workforce full time. There are currently four seniors also doing military service. Many seniors can take advantage of the Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG) when attending a two or four year college. No separate application is needed when you fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The Minnesota Achieve Scholarship is also available for students. Have a safe and enjoyable summer WWG/RRC Girls Track Team wins twenty medals at Sub Sections By Joan Zieske Coach The WWG/RRC girls track team won twenty medals Thursday, May 27, at the sub section meet which was held in Worthington. It was a great day for the Chargers as all four relay teams ran their best time of the season. The team also had seven personal bests. Halley Olsand made it into the finals with a personal best in the long jump. Although they didn't place, the follow- ing girls performed a per- sonal best. Brianna Mattison in the triple jump, Elizabeth Woelber and Jackie Trapp, in the 100 meter dash and in the 800 meter run Madison Takle and Samantha Prechel. Melanie Kedl placed in the 200 meter dash and ran her best time of the season. Advancing to sections will be Maddie Frank in the 300 hurdles and the 4 X 200 realy team of Melanie Kedl, Jordaan Joel, Alexa Byers and Maddie Frank. There is a possibility that Chloe Arfsten might make it in as a wild card in the pole vault. Another possibility as a wild card could be the 4 X 400 relay team ofCassie Erickson, Chanel Madson, Alexa Byers and Jordaan Joel. COLLEGE NEWS Commencement for the Jackson Campus of MN West Community and Technical College The Annual Commencement for the Jackson Campus of Minnesota West Community and Technical College was held on Friday, May 7 at 7:00 p.m. at the Jackson County Central High School Auditorium. SMSU Announces Spring Semester Dean's Lists Southwest Minnesota State University (Marshall, Minn.) students have been honored for achievement dur- ing the spring semester of study. Students with a 3.8-4.0 (A) grade-point-average are listed with "High Honors" while those with a grade- point-average between 3.5 and 3.79 gained "Honors" recognition. The goal was to qualify as many athletes for the Section 3A meet the follow- ing Thursday in Montevideo. The boys came through with 6 individuals qualifying in 6 events. Blake Stevens again ran season best times in his two hurdle events while Josh Benson turned in a season best in the mile run. The 4x400 relay team improved on their best time as well. No first place finishes were garnered, but athletes are advancing and they hope to keep dropping times next week.
