Watson's friends help you and social security By Betty Anders, Manager Social Security In February 2011, Jeopardy! broadcast its first competition that pit man against machine. Watson, an artificial intelligence com- puter system developed by IBM, competed against the show's two most successful champions: Ken Jennings (longest winning streak) and Brad Rutter (biggest money winner). Watson won, with the help of a four-terabyte memory that included 200 million pages of encyclopedias -- including the full text of Wikipedia. We at Social Security have known for some time that computers can help people. As a result, we developed and now have some of the best online services in the world. Time and time again, Social Security's online ser- vices are at the top of cus- tomer satisfaction surveys. So here's a Jeopardy! answer of our own: "You can con- duct these online services at www.socialsecurity.gov." What is the question? *What is "get an instant, personalized estimate of future benefits with the Retirement Estimator at www.socialsecurity.gov/esti- mator"? *What is "apply for Social Security retirement, spouse's, Medicare, or disability bene- fits at www.socialsecurity. gov/applyonline"? *What is "apply for Extra Help with Medicare prescrip- tion drug costs at www. socialsecurity.gov/prescrip- tionhelp"? *What is "request a replacement Medicare card at www.socialsecurity.gov/ pgm/links_rnedicare.htm"? All of the above are accept- able answers. Computers are capable of making our lives much easi- er. In fact, you might say that using our online services makes doing business with Social Security ... elementa- ry, dear Watson. See for yourself at www. socialsecurity.gov. (Is 42:6) A covenant is a promise, and there are eight covenants in the Word of God--prom- ises from God to man. Some of these are to all mankind while most are to Israel. Jesus Christ is at the heart of each of these covenants. Let us see how He is reflected in each of them. There are three universal covenants, given to all peo- ple. The first was in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 2:8- 17). Here man is offered the Tree of Life. Had man not sinned, he could have remained in the Garden, enjoying the Tree of Life, which pictures the Lord Jesus. Since man sinned, he was removed from the Garden, and Jesus had to die upon the tree of Calvary. Because this covenant was broken, it is no longer in operation. The second was given to Adam. Because of Adam's sin, God intervened on man's behalf. Jesus, the Redeemer, is promised as the seed of the woman (Gen 3:15). He is also pictured in the sacrifice of Abel (Gen 4:4). The third universal covenant was given to Noah (Gen 8:21- 9:27). The Redeemer would come through the line of Noah's son Shem. The other covenants were given specifically to the nation of Israel. The fourth, given to Abraham, is the most important, and all of the oth- ers flow out of it (Genesis 12:1-3). To Abraham was given a land, great blessing, fame, and the promise that all nations of the earth will be blessed through him. This was fulfilled through his seed, Christ! This covenant is ongoing, and yet to be fully fulfilled. Moses received the fifth covenant (Exodus 19:5-8). This involved primarily the Law, the first five books of the Old Testament. This national covenant was invali- dated when Israel failed to keep the Law. Jesus is the fulfillment of the Law (Galatians 3:24). Every per- son has to choose whether he will try to save himself by his good works, or depend upon the finished work of Christ the Savior. The sixth covenant is referred to as the Palestinian covenant (Deut 30:1-10). While the displaced Arabs are referred to as Palestinians today, we realize that that term was co-opted by the ter- rorist Yasser Arafat years ago, and it rightly refers to the Jewish people. This covenant is all about the Land -- Israel was given the land by Jehovah, taken from the land because of their disobedi- ence, and restored to the land beginning in the 20th century according to God's promise. The seventh covenant was given to David (2 Sam 7:12- 17). There is a Davidic line of kings--Solomon, Rehoboam, Josiah, to name a few. There is a Davidic throne--awaiting a son of David to occupy it. There is a Davidic Kingdom--this will last on earth for 1000 years, when Jesus will reign as King of Kings! The last is the New cove- nant (Jeremiah 31:31-34). Because of Jesus, the Messiah, the nation of Israel will one day fully enjoy many blessings: reunion, restora- tion, and regeneration. This covenant will also be fulfilled at Jesus' Second Coming when all Israel shall be saved (Romans 11:26). God keeps His promises! Jesus Christ is God's greatest promise. He came as Savior. He will come as King. www. ibcwestbrook.org <http:// www.ibcwestbrook.org/> st. --00Xlx Pageant Supper00 / FRIDAY, JULY 8 I 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. II I at the Walnut Grove Community Center I BIm Ala carte menu or meal deal $8. 1 Serving:hot turkey sandwiches, hot [] dogs, fresh fruit, chips, coleslaw, pie, ice cream, lemonade and coffee, r ' t Congregational matching funds B r otlerrboei g aRPePliddJd] rL:t hnd r: zg o Hosiery Ladies' Lingerie Store Fixtures Priced To Go!
