Barbara and her hus- band Jim Borden presented a musical program that included an African and a native American gospel song. The audience partic- ipated in a couple of the songs. A gentle breeze, clear skies, and birds chirp- ing their evening songs combined to make a com- fortable evening to sit out- doors and enjoy Barbara and Jim's concert. The evening concluded with a fireworks display. Barbara's husband Jim accompanied several of the songs on the guitar. were done a cappella. The rest L of Walnut Grove pitched in to build the first 2004 Wilder Festival starts Saturday The Walnut Grove Wilder Festival will be held on Saturday, July 10, 17 and 24, 11:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day at the Pageant Grounds by Plum Creek. Entertainment for the first Saturday includes "Starfire" a nostalgic rock and roll band from Fulda. They play favorites from the late 50's to mid 60's. The bluegrass band "Backroads Junction" from the Twin Cities area and the "Pageant Singers" will perform, too. The "Laura-Nellie Look-a- Like" contest will be held also on July 10. On July 17, "'Katy Young and Barrelhouse" from the Twin Cities area will play "'old school" jazz, jump blues and swing music. The Marshall Area Men's octette will be singing various a cap- pella numbers and the "Emerald Tide" Irish Dancers and musicians from Westbrook will also be per- forming their interesting program. The last Saturday, July 24. will bring fl'om Astoria, SD a bluegrass group "Lonesome Rail". Also per- forming will be "Singleton Street" a tblk, bluegrass and gospel group from the Twin Cities. Finally, "Blind Moose" a group from the St. Peter area will be playing semi-acoustic style rock and roll, old jazz, swing, country, bluegrass, traditional and modern folk. The Dave Doubler Family will be demonstrat- ing and displaying "Civil War artillery on July 17 and 24. The Barn will have Jo Wilson's and other local arti- san's quilts and goods on dis- play. There will be an ecu- menical church service held on July 18 at 9:30 a.m. at the Festival site. So, come enjoy the great entertainment, tbod and activities far all ages at the 2004 Wilder Festival.
