Baby alert: how much will it cost Did you know that more babies are born in August than in any other month of the year? It's true. accord- ing to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. which tracks birth trends. If you're among those expecting your first bundle of joy this summer, brace yourself. The USDA esti- mates that the average first- year cost of raising a baby equals a shiny new Toyota. or about $20,000. That includes labor and delivery. day care and costs related to furniture, clothes, diapers, and doctor visits. Ka ching! What's the best way to prepare? Plan ahead, says Cherrish Holland, manager of Financial Counseling for Lutheran Social Service, who had her first child last year and is pregnant with her second child. "You might think that, since it's your first child, you need to have everything new for the nursery and for the baby, too," Holland said. "It's not necessary. Borrowing baby items from friends and relatives, shopping to get the best deals, and deciding on what you really need are great financial guides for new parents." The LSS Financial Counse!ing Service pffers several other basic tips for planning first-year baby costs: 1. Get adice and know what you need: When you shop at baby stores, you may think you need eveD'thing! Talk to other parents and learn from 'them what infants really need and don't need at all. Overspending on the nursery and on special items for the baby is easy to do! Make a list and get the items that are essential for your baby needs. 2. Skip the designer labels: Kids don't need designer clothes and shoes that they will grow out of before you can say "Peek-A- Boo." Save the money you might have spent on design- er wear and put it in a col- lege fund. Your child appreciate you a lot later on! 3. Borrow from You can save a bundle using second-hand ture. clothes and needs. If your friends offer loan you some of what need. say "yes!" 4. Shop Sometimes, stores that baby items exclusively the most spendy. costs at some of the department stories and count chains. Some sites also give away baby stuff, or have deais! Garage sales can be gold mine, especially and clothes, but make that what you buy safety standards. 5. Clip coupons. never clipped coupons, is a good time to Coupons can mean bi cial savings for you. 6. Develop a Baby-related costs are the first year. Plan a and stick to it. Start money away each "from your paycheck, eve specific items like which can cost close $1,000 a year! Or, stock now on items you you'll need when the arrives. "Parenthood is rewarding, and having first baby is especially ing," Holland said. "But not to get carried awa) planful. Your bab); and budget, will be better the long run." There are many verses in the Bible like this one that tell us that we should forgive those who have offended or insulted us in one way or another. Often, relationships between families and friends have been destroyed because of the hardening of the heart and the refusal to forgive others for something that they may have said or done. Because we are close to our loved ones, we may feel that we can say things to them that we would never say to others. Although the spirit of forgiveness is not always easy, forgiveness is usually more important to " those who have been offended than to those who have caused the offense. Quite often, a person may not even realize that they have said or done something that disturbs us, and frequently a person's words or actions may simply be misinterpreted. Forgiving others as God forgives us is necessary in order to live our lives as our Heavenly Father - requires. -_' Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any Man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
