Kids Fishing /..n The Walnut Grove Loggers will hold thei ual kids fishing derby at Lake Laura at Plum Creek Park Saturday morning starting at 10:00 a.m. The derby is for kids 12 and under, bring your own pole for lots of fun. • Pageant - From front page 1 Above: The 23 Laura Look-a-Like contestants posed for this group photo during the contest Saturday afternoon. Laura and Nellie L00k-a-Like Contestants At the Family Festival there was performances by Clairsearch: Irish Gaelic Music, by Ann and Charley Heymann and the Lucia Family Dance Troupe pro- viding native American History and Dance. Other events in the park included: craft activities for the kiddies, including games and many more activities -- Run Kelsey conducted seed art; weaving, and woodcarv- ing were demonstrated; Joel McKirmey helped kids make beaded jewelry; kids made corn husk dolls; leather • work, and a variety of other kids games and activities were on going throughout the day. Youngsters also enjoyed a thrill riding on the ponies. Of course there was plenty of food available, from ice cream, funnel cakes, egg rolls, to coney dogs and much more. Craft and flea market vendors were hawking their wares throughout the day. There was plenty to do for young and old. Week 2 -- Family Festival Saturday July 20 Starting the day will be a ttmong performance featur- ing authentic Hmong cos- tumes. Bob Bovee and Gall Hell will give two performances of Folk Music during the festival. Dave Doubler and his troops will have a display of civil war items, and he and his troops will perform a couple of demonstrations of field amputation, and firing of a cannon and mortar. Kids activities will include face painting, string art, bean bag toss, string art, and color pages and word search puzzles, corn scaven- ger hunt, bent wire jewelry, and pony rides. The Laura and Nellie Look-a-Like contest will begin at 3:00 p.m. with reg- istration beginning at 1:00 p.m. Of course there will also be plenty of food to eat from ice cream cones to hot dogs, and authentic Asian egg rolls. Craft vendors will also have their wares for sale to visitors.
