Many others haven't. I wonder why. Are they the twenty-something and thirty-something group for whom Social Security seems a long way off?. or do they fail to realize the usefulness of the information these statements provide? If that sounds like your reasoning, let me explain why I think an earnings and benefit estimate statement can be useful and relevant to you, even ff you're still twenty or thirty-something. First of all, if yon have children, you should know that Social Security will pay survivors benefits to them if you die, as long as you have worked and paid into the Social Security system. Your statement tells you approximately how much each child would receive. For most people, the amount is often more than they expected. Knowing that information can help you make realistic decisions about work other investments you need in order to provide for your family. No one expects to become disabled as a result of an illness or injury, but most workers are covered for Social Security disability benefits if something happens to them. Your statement also shows the amount of disability benefits payable to you, your spouse, and your children. Everyone should find the Fighting the flu Influenza season Is approaching. Studies of working parents have involved mostly mothers since recent traditions have assumed that most fathers work and most mothers don't. These studies have shown that there is very little difference between the children of working mothers and the children of non-working mothers. What does seem to make a difference is whether or not the" mother is satisfied with her situation. If you are a parent who is dissatisfied to any degree you could begin to deal with that dissatisfaction in one of two ways. First, you could reexamine your situation and try to feel more positive about it. Second, you could change something about your situation to make it more positive. In trying to feel more positive about your situation, you may have two types of feelings to deal with. One type is general dissatisfaction or unhappiness.
