WESTBROOK- LIBRARY By Karl Ourada Hours: Monday 9:00 - 6:00 p.m. Tuesday 9:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday 1:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday Closed Friday 9:00-2:00 p.m. Saturday Closed The Summer Reading Program was once again a fun success at the library. We had 15 who completed all the reading requirements for their age group. There were many others who par- ticipated by coming to the afternoon programs and earning dollars off on their Twins ticket. We look for- ward to working with the kids again next year and make that even better. We have three new adult fiction books at the library. "qChy the Sky Is Blue" by Susan Meissner is a story about dreams coming true.. and about asking why the sky is blue. "Shoot the Moon" by Billie Letts is a tale of a small Oklahoma town and the mystery that has haunted its residents for years. What comes after the moment, that forever changes your life? That is the question that haunts the characters in 'The Summer I Dared" by Barbara Delinsky. Anita gave this book to the library in memo- ry of her mother Agnes Schneider. We have two new chil- dren's books by author Jamie Lee Curtis. %Vhere Do Balloons GO?" an uplift- ing mystery and 'Today I Feel Silly and Other MOODS That Make My Day." Enjoy the holiday week- end! The library will be closed on Labor Day. CLUB NEWS TOPS WESTBROOK -- TOPS Club No. 1336 meets at Grace Lutheran Church, Westbrook, on Monday. For example, seeing a child cry can melt even the coldest heart, and in general, when we see the suffering of others, we are often moved powerfully by our emotions to reach out and help. This mere act of reaching out with compassion can be very gratifying and is certainly a reflection of God's providential hand; however, taking responsibility is often a thankless task with little emotional appeal. There is often nothing particularly satisfying in the .daily attention to duty and responsibility, whether it is the doing of one's chores or the simple attention to doing the right thing morally, such as being obedient and adhering to the letter of the moral lay. Because of this, compassion can take care of itself, while responsibility must be nurtured. We should ask our- selves daily whether we are living obediently according to God's will. So Samuel said: Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams.
