llll The Red Rock Chargers pushed their record to 6 and 0 last Friday night when they downed Lincoln Hi (Ivanhoe and Hendricks) 39-0 in the annual homecoming game. The Chargers pushed across 4 touchdowns and a safety in the first half for a 30 point lead at halftime. On the start of the second half, they took the kickoff and moved 58 yards for another TD which gave coach Gillis a chance to run in his second and third stringers for some game experience. The rout made for a happy Homecoming for the Chargers, but looking ahead to this Friday night when they travel to Mountain Lake, things will be quite different. ML-B-O will be smarting from a defeat by RTR last week which knocked them out of a tie with the Chargers for 1st place in the Tri- Star-Conference, and they could still get a share of the conference title if they knock off the Chargers. Mike Ewy continued to lead the Chargers in tackles with 13. Nick Kuehl and Steve Crowell each had 9, Mark Meier and Jason Bakke each had 6 and Jim Vosberg, and Darin Wahl had 5. Troy Steen completed 10 of 13 passes for 147 yards and Juhl Erickson completed 2 of 4 for 46. Erickson caught 4 passes for 73 yards, Jason Bakke 3 for 26 and a TD, Nick Kuehl caught 2 for 46 and a TD and Chad Boeck 2 for 21 yards. The Chargers ended up with 194 yards passing and 120 yards rushing for a total of 314. The Rebels had 28 yards passing and -7 yards rushing for a total of 21 yards. The Chargers kicked off to Lincoln Hi to start the game with Mike Popowski returning to his own 35. Ross Nelson ran for 2, Mac Leach for 5, but then the defense held and they punted to the Charger 15. Chad Boeck carried for a first down on the 30, then Josh Meyer gained 3 and a pass from Troy Steen to Jason Bakke was good to the 28. On third down, Steen passed to Juhl Erickson who carried it all the way to the Rebels 18 yard line. Boeck gained 8 and Meyer made it a 1st on the 7. Boeck then carried to the 3 and then into the endzone for a TD. The extra point by Erickson was good and the Chargers led 7-0. On the next series, the Rebels started from their 29 after a 21 yard runback by Nelson. Nelson picked up 5, but then a penalty pushed the Rebels back to their 13. An incomplete pass forced them to punt, but a bad snap from center went all the way into the endzone for a safety and the Chargers led by 9. Lincoln had to kick from the 20 yard line and the Chargers took over on their own 42. After an incompleted pass, the Chargers were penalized back to their 48. A pass to Meyer was good to the Rebel 35 and a penalty pushed it to a 1st on the Rebel 20. Boeck picked up another 1st on the 8 and then Meyer ran for 6 and 2 for a TD. The EP was good and the Chargers led 16-0. On the kickoff, Jason Bakke boomed one into the endzone and the Rebels started from their 20. Three plays netted them 5 yards and they punted to Erickson who took it on his 40 and returned it to the Rebel 45 as the first quarter came to an end. Meyer carried twice for 8 and then Steen on a quarterback sneak picked up a first down on the 32. Boeck picked up 2 but then three incompletions turned the ball over to the Rebels on their own 32. Leach picked up 3 and Nelson another three but then Wayne Hanson picked off a Lundberg pass and returned it to the Rebels 47. Steen hit Bakke to the 38 and Meyer got a 1st on the 36. Boeck ran to the 31 but then Steen was sacked back on the 37. On the next play Steen threw a strike to Nick Kuehl who took it in for the TD. The EP was good and the Chargers led 23-0 On the next series, with time running down in the first half, the Rebels gambled on a fourth down pass on their own 34 yard line and Lundberg was sacked on the 25 where Red Rock took over. A pass to Boeck was good to the 16 and Meyer picked up a 1st on the 13. A pass to Erickson was good to the 10 and then Steen hit Bakke in the endzone for a TD. The EP was good and the score was 30-0 as the half ended. At the start of the third quarter the Rebels attempted an onside kick but Shannon Olson fell on the ball for the Chargers on their 47 yard line. After a penalty to the 43, Jim Kleven carried to the Rebel 42. After the kickoff, the Chargers started running in the substitutes. The Rebels started from their 11. Nelson c~ to the 15 and then a pass interference call gave them a I st on the 30. On the next play, Steve Crowell recovered a fumble for the Chargers on the Rebel 45, but two plays later, the Chargers fumbled it back to the Rebels on the 42. Nelson gained 5 and then a penalty gave them a 1st down on the Charger 47. Lundberg gained 4, then passed to Scott Lawrence for 1st down on the Charger 21. Two plays failed to gain and then on third down, Beau Seeger sacked Lundberg for an 8 yard loss and after an incomplete pass, the Chargers took over on downs on their own 28. Eric Kronback ran for 5 and then Erickson picked up a 1st on the 45 as the third period ended. Three plays failed to gain for the Chargers and they punted to the Rebel 30. After an incompleted pass, Lundberg threw a long pass that was picked off by Doug Westerman of the Chargers and returned to the Rebel 43. Kleven ran for 8, but then a penalty moved the ball back to the 42 and Erickson punted to the 12. After 2 incomplete passes, Lundberg dropped back into the endzone to pass and was sacked by Chad Bakke for a 2 point safety. On the free kick from the 20 yard line, Chris Dallenbach took it on his own 45 and returned it to the Rebel 45. Andy Haar picked up 8 but then Todd VanOverbeke of the Rebels sacked the quarterback on the 47 yard line. On the next play, Erickson passed to Jim Kleven for a 1st on the 26. Haar carried twice to the 21 as the game ended with the final score 39-0. This week the Chargers will be traveling to Mountain Lake on Friday looking for their 7th win.
