I It was no contest last Thursday night at the Westbrook football field as the Chargers stopped the Tracy Milroy Panthers cold to take the Tri-Star Conference title with a perfect 8-0 record, Once again it was the Charger defense that stifled the Panthers as they held the Panthers star running back Troy Otto to just 37 yards rushing. Leading the defense was a very busy Mike Ewy with 19 tackles for the night and a recovered fumble. Steve Crowell had 8, Josh Meyer and Jason Bakke each 6 and Mark Meier and Nick Kuehl each had 5. The two teams ended up quite close on rushing yardage with the Charges having 106 and TM 105, but passing was another story with TM picking up 62 yards and the Chargers 195. Troy Steen completed 9 of 22 passes with 2 intercepted. Juhl Erickson passed twice, one for 22 yards and another for 62 yards, both times to Nick Kuehl. Nick Kuehl led the Chargers in scoring with a 38 yard pass from Steen for a TD and a 62 yard pass from Juhl Erickson for another TD. Chad Boeck scored a TD on a 27 yard romp in the fourth period and Josh Meyer scored the other TD on a 2 yard plunge in the 2rid period. The game was originally scheduled for Wednesday evening, but driving snow made it impossible to see from one side of the field to the other so the game was called off by the officials and rescheduled for Thursday night. Westbrook kicked off to start the game with the Panthers starting from their 10 after a good kick by Jason Bakke. Troy Otto ran three times but came up 21 yards short of a 1st down so they punted to the Chargers 48. On the first play, Steen hit Bakke for a 1st on the Panther 33. Meyer gained 4 and Steen 2 but then a penalty pushed them back to the 38 yard line. On the next play Kuehl got behind the 38. Then Steve Johnson carried to the 47 but then Ouo was stopped for no gain and then lost 2 yards as the first quarter ended. Remme punted to Erickson on the 22 and he returned to the 29. Meyer carried for 5, Boeck for 4 and then Meyer made it a 1st on the 45. A pass to Kuehl was good for another 1st on the Panther 33.
