SENTINEL TRIBUNE Wednesday, November 1, 2017 Page 12 The Chargers used a hard pounding running game to up-end the Dutchmen 56 -38 By Tom Merchant Sentinel Tribune EDGERTON Saturday's win over Edgerton was of historic proportions for the Chargers. The win came ten years from the last time the Chargers defeated the Dutchmen on their home field. But the win also pro- pelled the Chargers into the final game of the section against Mountain Lake Area. The game will be played this Thursday afternoon at Anthony Ross takes the ball in for this two point conversion last 5:00 at Mattke Field Saturday. Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall. The last time the Chargers were in the sec- tion finals was 2008. The Dutchmen kickoff sailed out of bounds and the Chargers accepted the ball at the 35. Kyle Kuehl ripped off a couple nice runs pick- ing up 15 yards, then Andrew Quade broke off a 28 yard run down to the Dutchmens 24. A pass from Anthony Ross to Nathan Ross took it inside the 15 yard line. The Chargers then ground it out the rest of the way with Kuehl scor- ing from a yard out. The Ross to Ross connection added the extra point put- ting the Chargers up 8-0. On the next series the Chargers held the Dutchmen just inside the Chargers 35 and took over on downs. The Chargers moved the ball inside the Dutchmen 25 but a holding call took them back to the 40. On the next play the Dutchmen picked off a Ross pass and returned it to just shy of the 50 yard line. Two plays later Edgerton completed a 48 yard pass to score with just 7 seconds left in the first quarter. The extra point attempt failed making it 8-6 in favor of the Chargers. On the next kickoff Quade had a big return taking it down inside Edgerton territory as the quarter ended. In the second quarter the two teams swapped scores twice. The Chargers went on to score on a 13 play drive with Quade taking it in from a yard out. Anthony Ross picked up the 2 point conversion on a keeper put- ting the Chargers up 16- 6. On the next series Edgerton scored with just under 3 minutes left in the half and added a 2 point conversion to make the score 16-14. After a nice return by Ethan Mischke of about 30 yards, there was a pass from Ross to Ross that picked up 28 yards more Andrew Quade carried the ball in for one of his four touchdowns on the day against the Dutchmen. On the next kickoff the Dutchmen returned it to their own 40 and with 22 seconds left in the half scored on a 13 yard run. The extra point was no good but the Dutchmen closed the gap to 22-20. In the third quarter the Chargers came out fiat and gave up two unanswered touchdowns to the Dutchmen putting Edgerton in the lead at 32-22 at the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter a chain of events took place that will probably never happen again. First the Chargers, who had driven down to the 21 of Edgerton as the third quarter ended, punched it in on a 12 yard run, the extra point attempt was no good making the score 32-28. With a little over 9 min- utes to play the Dutchmen scored again, the extra point was no good but Edgerton upped their lead to 38-28. After that the Chargers completely dismantled the Dutchmen defense scoring 4 touchdowns in just over 6 minutes. The first came when Ross connected with Kuehl on 20 yard pass play and four plays later Ross found Mischke open on a 24 yard pass down to the 7 yard line. Two plays later Kuehl took it in from 5 yards out. Quade punched into the end zone for the 2 point conver- sion, cutting Edgerton's lead to 38-36. On the next series the Dutchmen coughed up the ball again on the kickoff just inside their own 35 yard line. Kuehl and Quade teamed up to get the ball down to the 4 yard line where Quade plowed in for the score. The Ross to Ross connection completed the 2 point conversion making the score 56-38. With a little over a min- ute to play the Charger defense managed to keep the Dutchmen out of the end zone to preserve one of the biggest wins for the Receiving - Nathan Ross had 10 receptions for 102 yards; Kuehl had 2 catches for 40 yards; Mischke had I catch for 25 yards; Quade had 1 catch for 8 yards. Rushing - Quade had 31 carries for 190 yards, 3 TD's, 1 extra point; Kuehl had 29 carries for 160 yards, 4 TDs; A. Ross had 2 carries for 3 yards and an extra point. Kickoff returns - Quade had 3 for 81 yards; Mischke had 1 for 9 yards. Defense: Jake Kleven had 19 tack- les; Jace Paplow had 14 tackles; Kuehl and Quade each had 11 tackles; Nathan Ross had 10 tackles and 1 fumble recovery; Matt Deprez and Mischke each had 6 tackles; Ethan Parker, and Abe Her each had 3 tackles; Wyatt Christians, Lincoln Anderson, and Chris Ebeling each had 2 tackles; Gabe Krick and Pasyn Parker each had a kickoff fumble recovery.
