Johnson were held Friday, October 29 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Dovray, MN. Interment was in Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Online condolences may be sent via www.westbrookfuneral.com. Winston "Winnie" D. Johnson, age 80, of Dovray passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at his home. Winston Johnson was born March 10, 1930 in Avoca, MN to Hans J. and Olga B. (Julien) Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Dovray. He attended school in Dovray and graduated from Westbrook High School. Winston was a lifelong farmer, farming with his brother Irvin on his farm near Dovray in Murray County. He enjoyed the simple, rural life. Winston was a lifelong member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. He was a passionate reader and loved solving puzzles. He was an animal lover, enjoyed the outdoors and sports, especially baseball and was a fan of the New York Yankees. Survivors include his sisters Joyce Bonk of Ann Arbor, MI and Janice (David) Tweet of Eden Prairie, MN; his faithful compan- ion, his Black Lab Katie; and other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents and brother Irvin. Joan Zieske Doris E. Nelson Celebration of Life ser- vices for Doris Evangeline Nelson were held at Bethany Lutheran Church, Storden, MN, Saturday, October 31, 2010 with Rev. Ann Ward officiated. Honorary casketbearers were Sabrina and Tabatha Nelson. Casket bearers were Chris Neperman, Hilary Bergendahl, Molly Bergendahl, Michael Bergendahl, Tyler Johnson, Mackenzie Johnson, and Alex Nelson. Interment at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery - rural Storden, MN. Doris Evangeline Nelson was born on July 21, 1922, in Westhrook, MN to the late John and Myrtle (Solater) Hass. She was baptized and confirmed at the Grace Lutheran Church in Westbrook. Doris graduated from Westbrook High School. On August 5, 1946, Doris was united in marriage to Burdette Nelson in Marysville, Kansas. Doris and Burdette lived in Storden where Doris was employed as a clerk in the grocery Prairie store and a cook at the Storden-Jeffers High School until retiring in 1990. After retirement, Doris was involved in volunteer work and did quilting and crocheting. Three years ago, Doris moved into Peterson Estates in ..................... Westbrook. Recently, she was transferred to the Sanford Hospital ii;i in Sioux Falls, SD where she died on Tuesday, October 26, 2010, at the age of 88. Doris was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Storden. She also was a member of the Herbert-Reese American Legion Auxiliary in Storden for over 60 years. Survivors include her children: Sharon Bergendahl (Dave), Yankton, SD; Nancy Johnson (Gerry), Grand Rapids; Steve Nelson (Wanda), Minneapolis; Susan Nelson, Lamberton; Marsha Underwood (Mike), Mankato; David Nelson (Dawn), Minneapolis; nine grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; one sis- ter, Loft Burks of Pasadena, CA; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Burdette (1981); brothers, Dorlan, Willard, Howard and Harold; sister, Lila Olson; and grandson, Matthew Neperman. Former volleyball coach and educator Joan Zieske was presented a plaque by Leo Theisen from the Section 3A South Girls Coaches Association. She was honored at the Section 3A Tournament last Friday night at Luverne for her dedication, loyalty, and service to high school education, athletics, and volleyball. Zieske is the sixth person to be recognized by the association. Winds Art Festival Area news briefs Fulda Free Press - Due to growth in student numbers, Kristin Pfeiffer, Mt. Lake, MN recently joined the staff at Fulda Elementary School as a third grade teacher. Pfeiffer has taught as a pre-school teacher and was employed for two years at Winfair Elementary in Windom. Lamberton News - Four RTR students were suspended for one day of school as they used an inappropriate phrase on the senior class float in the homecoming parade. The three letter acronym was from the TV show "The Jersey Shore." Murray County News - John Giese recently celebrated 30 years assisting high school officials as a Chain Gang vol- unteer on the sidelines at the MCC home football games. Even with two artificial knees, John is planning a return to the sidelines in the fall of 2011. Tracy Headlight Herald - Gary Rue, a St. Paul musician will be inducted into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame in New Uhn Nov. 6. Some of the others who are in the Hall of Fame are Judy Garland, Bob Dylan, Bobby Vee and Dennis Morgan. Windom Citizen - It appears Windom will be without an economic development director until at least mid-January. The EDA will place an ad in multiple publications and the deadline for applicants in Nov. 29.
