It's a new take on the story of Daniel - com- plete with a "Sound of Music" parody. For this per- formance, they are joined by actor Nathaniel Norton. Theater for the Thirsty believes that people are hun- gry and thirsty for more than what much of this life offers. So the goal is to refresh peo- ple's spirits, challenge their assumptions, entertain their socks off and inject some hope into their lives. Everyone is welcome to attend this performance and to hopefully have their spir- its refreshed. My Name is Daniel is part of the annual Harvest Festival weekend at Storden Baptist Church. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never per- ish, neither shall any pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them tO me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand I and my Father are one. (John 10:27-30) Of all the things that Jesus is, the most important is that He is God. The cults do not teach that He is God. Liberal theolo- gians do not believe that He is fully God. Atheists reject His deity. The few lines that will be written here will certainly not do justice to this grand topic. Let us consider just a few thoughts from the Scriptures Paul portrays Jesus as God. His declarations of Jesus' deity are numerous. The blood that saves us is the blood of God (Acts 20:28). Jesus has the essence of God (Phil 2:6-8). In Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily (Col 2:9, 10). Paul refers to Him as the great God and Savior (Titus 2:13). John portrays Jesus as God. John's declaration in the first chapter of His Gospel is very clear. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God The same was in the beginning with God All things were made by Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made... And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace andtruth (John 1:1-3, 14). In 1 John, he associ- ated Jesus with God so closely that: to deny Him is to deny the Father; to confess Him is to confess the Father (2:23); to abide in Him is to abide in the Father (2:24; 4:15). He calls Jesus the true God (5:20). Others in the NT portray Jesus Christ as God. The disciple Thomas knew that He was his Lord and his God (Jn 20:28). Peter referred to Him as God and Savior (2 Pet 1:1). The writer to the Hebrews quotes the Psalmist who said--Thy throne, 0 God is forever and ever (Ps 45:6; Heb 1:8). From the book of Revelation, John gives us reasons why we can trust that Jesus is indeed God. First, He has the privileges and powers of God: He can take or restore life (1:17, 18), searches men's hearts (2:22, 23), receives worship (5:11-14), shares sovereignty (11:15), and occupies God's throne (22:1- 3). Second, He receives the titles of God. He is the Living One (1:18), the Holy and True (3:7), the Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End (22:13). Third, He accepts, without hesitation, OT passages relating to God. Compare the following and you will see this truth (Deut 10:17/Rev 17:14; Prov 3:12/Rev 3:19; Dan 7:9/Rev 1:14; Zech 4:10/Rev 5:6). Jesus Christ is our Creator, our only Mediator, and soon will be our King. But above all things, He is God, the Second Person of the Trinity. He deserves our worship, love, and praise. www.ibcwestbrook.org CLUB NOTES TOPS WESTBROOK -- TOPS Club No. 1336 meets at Grace Lutheran Church, Westbrook, on Monday.
