SENTINEL TRIBUNE i - i i , i Ii r i r ii i , 1 rl Lr Wednesday, November 18, 2009 Page 8 Westbrook-Walnut Grove is proud of having intelli- gent, wonderful, and respectful students. We prepare them with key fundamental skills in academics, offer many extra-curricular activities, and hopefully build leaders who will be successful in their future. Our schools also offer more. We also teach and encourage our students to have admirable and respectful charac- ter traits. For example, Angle DeSmith and I just fin- ished a friendship series for our 2nd and 3rd graders, Sue Deprez and I have started our annual "Don't Laugh At Me" program with the 5th graders, and Carter Ross and I will start a character building series by Lions Quest for our 6th graders. In addition, I will be teaching a program called Get Ready to our 4th and 5th graders to learn more about themselves, their skills and interests, and start discov- ering what careers and colleges are out there. Last week, Climb Theatre came to present a free play to our 4th-6th graders called "Fantasy Football." The play teaches the students about achieving your goals by making positive choices that can help you in the future. Last Friday, New Horizons Crisis Center came to Walnut Grove to provide free information on bullying to our K-6th graders. Lastly for K-6, our lst-4th graders will have an integration day this Friday. The agenda for our 7th-12th graders seems to be quite full as well. The high school play will perform "Seussical" on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night of this week. All performances start at 7 p.m. The 7th and 8th grade play will perform "Hillbilly Weddin" on Monday, November 23 in the afternoon and Tuesday night. The junior high concert is on Monday, November 23 at 7 p.m. and the Hmong New Year is celebrated at the Westbrook gym at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24. You are all welcome to support and take pride in our students. Appreciation to all of our community members, stu- dents, board members, administrators, and staff for all that you do to contribute and support each other's suc- cesses. Passing our referendum will help our students reach their potentials. It's free and open to the public. ing ip I CLASSIFIED OU This patrol was spotted last Saturday southwest of Westbrook blad- ing the roads in DesMoines River Township near Lake Louisa. nge rnl m It is that time of year again, when in the hustle ami-bustte of{he holidays, the sight of The Salvation Army's Christmas Kettles and the sound of the bells remind us to be thankful for what we have and to think of others less fortu- nate. Often when people think of those in need, they picture the homeless in large cities, not realiz- ing that The Salvation Army is hard at work here in Cottonwood County. The Salvation Army Service Unit of Cottonwood County is asking for community support. The Salvation Army puts Christmas Kettle funds to work, right here in Cottonwood County, all year long. All businesses, big or small, are encouraging to get their employees involved in the Christmas Kettle Campaign, which will run from November 23 to December 24. Employers can challenge their employees, maybe by offering an incentive, to outdo the business next door. Groups such as the red hatters, bowling teams, athletic teams can challenge other groups or teams. These .are--juse a few suggestions of how communities can come together to help those less fortunate. By donating to the red kettles or offering your time to bell ring you can make a difference in the lives of those The Salvation Army touch throughout the year. All donations stay in Cottonwood County. If you, your family, or organization is able to assist with bell ringing, or if you have any questions; please contact Cottonwood County Salvation Army Representative Angela Holmen at 507-831-1262 to arrange a time. If your group or organization would rather make a donation you may send your donations to The Salvation Army, Christmas Kettle Campaign, PO Box 9, Windom, MN 56101 Help make a difference in @ ! someone's life this holiday season!
