The simple, yet sublime name of Jesus is the name above every name. It was given to Him by God through the angel, and prophesied in the OT that He would be the Savior. It is His only true name, all others being titles. Humanly, it is akin to Hosea and Joshua. Divinely, it literally means the help of Jehovah. This blessed name gives voice to His deity. It speaks of His ability to to give pardon and peace, to deliver from sin and an everlasting hell. Jesus is referred to 700 times in the NT. Perhaps no truer picture is seen of Jesus than in His ministry to Lazarus and his family in John 11. You remember the story, how Jesus had a friendship with this family. Lazarus had been taken sick and died. His sisters, Mary and Martha, called for Jesus, wondering why He had taken so long to come--perhaps if He had come sooner, Lazarus would not have died. In this account we see several things about our Lord Jesus. His divinit is clearly revealed. When Jesus heard about Lazarus' sickness, He said: This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified by it (4). Though Jesus had emptied Himself of some of His attri- butes, He was still God, and this miracle resurrection would demonstrate God's power. We see His love. Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus (5). These folks were special in His sight. He may have been God, but He was also human. We see Jesus' faith. The disciples were alarmed at Jesus' proposal to cross over to Judea where the Jews had previously sought to stone Hm. Yes, there was danger, but Jesus knew that His life was in the Father's hand. He neither worried nor hur- fled, but went about the Father's business, which in this situa- tion meant going to heal Lazarus. Jesus'j_Q is manifested. We hear Him say, Iam glad(15a). The things that bring joy to Jesus are far different than the things that bring joy to this world. He was glad that He had not been there to heal Lazarus. He now had the opportunity to raise him from the dead so that God might be glorified and many would believe on Him. We see Jesus' frustration.. When Jesus saw her wailing, and the Jews also wailing, He groaned in the Spirit, and was trou- bled (33). He had just told them that He was the Resurrection and the Life (25, 26), and that Lazarus was going to rise (23). Why the weeping? Didn't they believe in Him? Jesus shows His great compassion. Jesus wept (35). These were tear-drops touched with feelings of our infirmities from our great High Priest (Heb 4:15). They are quite a contrast to the false tears of the mourners (33). Soon Jesus would shed, as it were, blood-drops for us in the Garden (Luke 22:44). Oh what great compassion! Finally, we see Hispower. He cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth..4ndhe that was dead came forth (43, 44). This cry came from Him who is the Resurrection and the Life! This is the demonstration of His power. This same voice will one day wake the dead, and call the living tothe se to]b forever with the Lord. ' ' ' Wherefore God also has highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow...and that every tongue shouM confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Phil 2:9-11). www.ibcwestbrook.org Keeping your pets happy and safe when boarding them this holiday season As much as pet owners may want to take their furry or feathered friends with them wherever they go, sometimes finding a kennel or pet care service you can trust is necessary for holiday travel. That's why the Better Business Bureau of Minnesota and North Dakota (BBB) created a checklist to help pet owners choose a safe and reliable home-away- from-home for their pets. Every year, the BBB receives hundreds of com- plaints from pet owners about kennels. To date, this year the BBB received more than 400 complaints regarding dis- putes over billing, and treat- ment of pets - which is up from the 273 complaints filed in 2010. Some owners claimed to arrive at kennels to retrieve pets that were severe- ly dehydrated and malnour- ished or rife with fleas, ticks, and even maggots. Worst- case scenarios include pets that became extremely ill while boarding at poor facili- ties which resulted in lengthy stays at an animal hospital. "Pets are often like family and the last thing we want to do is stress over their care during the holiday season," said Dana Badgerow, BBB President and CEO. "Take a few moments to do your research and fred a kennel you can trust so your time out of town will be more enjoy- able for you and your pet." If you are looking for a reliable kennel, the BBB rec- ommends the following checklist: *Check them out and get recommendations. Always check out the kennel with the BBB at www.bbb.org first to make sure they have a good track record for keeping cus- tomers satisfied. Also ask your friends, neighbors, vet- erinarian or local animal shel- ters for recommendations. *Make a visit. Personally visit the facilities you are considering before schedul- ing the boarding. Check for cleanliness and offensive odors, and note the overall appearance of the kennel and cages. *Ask lots of questions. If your pet is prone to running away, ask about steps the kennel has taken to make their facilities escape-proof. Inquire if your pet will come in contact with other animals. Some kennels let animals play together while others keep them separate at all times. Ask about the feeding schedule, water accessibility and frequency of- or fees related to - exercise. Also, ask about the hours for drop offand pick up and make sure you understand their billing policy. Finally, ask what hap- pens in case of a medical emergency or other unexpect- ed situation. *Trust your instincts. Note the friendliness of staff mem- bers and how they interact with the boarded pets. Ask about their background and experience. If your state requires inspections, look for the certificate on the wall and make sure the kennel is prop- erly licensed. Make sure the facility requires that all enter- ing pets have proof of immu- nization, and ask about their policies regarding flea and tick control.
